About This Site

An independent site that answers the arguments against the restored gospel — stated fairly, answered directly, and closed with a verdict.

What This Site Is

Shaken Faith Syndrome is an independent site that answers arguments made against the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It is written for two readers: the member who has run into an objection no one prepared them for, and the critic who wants the strongest version of the answer rather than the easiest one to dismiss.

Every article here takes a single argument, states it in its strongest form, and answers it from scripture, the historical record, and ordinary logic. No article closes with “it is a matter of faith” where an answer is available. Where the honest answer is “we do not know,” the article says so plainly instead of filling the gap with confidence.

How the Articles Are Written

Three rules govern every page:

State the objection fairly. An argument that has to be misquoted to be refuted was never refuted. Each article quotes the objection as its best advocates actually put it.

Cite the text. Scripture references are given so the reader can open the passage and check the claim in context, not take the site’s word for it. Where a historical claim is made, the source is named in the body of the article.

Reach a verdict. Articles end with a conclusion, not with a survey of opinions. A reader who works through a page should come away knowing what the site holds and why, and should be able to disagree with it precisely.

What This Site Is Not

This is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for any church, university, or organization, and nothing here should be read as an official statement of doctrine by anyone. Where an article describes what a church teaches, it is describing — the authority for any teaching rests with that church and its own published sources.

It is also not a discussion forum, a news site, or a place for personal accusations. Arguments are addressed; people are not.

Where to Start

If an argument brought you here, use the menu: the four sections group the articles by the kind of objection they answer — Answering Critics for method and rhetoric, Apostasy & Restoration for the historical claim at the centre of the debate, Priesthood Authority for the question of who may act in God’s name, and Receiving Revelation for how a person can know any of it is true.

If you have a question that no article here answers, or you think an article gets something wrong, say so on the contact page. Corrections are welcome and are made in the open.
